A 31-year-old man, Ekanem Ikot has been accused of killing his 27-year-old girlfriend, Edith Owei in a hotel in Minna, Niger State. PUNCH reports that Owei, a graduate of Ambrose Alli University, told her parents that she was travelling to the school to collect her NYSC call-up letter. The family got worried when she didn’t show up days later and her phone was unreachable. Later, Owei’s sister, Felicia received a text message from the boyfriend who confessed to the killing and revealed the location where the corpse was. The family alerted the police who reached out to a Niger State division, and confirmed the murder to be true.
Insider sources told PUNCH that Ikot and Owei had been dating for six months, that he lured her to the hotel in Niger after he found out that he has gonorrhea infection.
The victim’s body has been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre Hospital in Asaba. When reached for comment, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, said she had yet to be briefed on the case.
