The residents of Umuduruegwele autonomous community in Ehime Mbano, Imo State, are mourning the death of a mother of five children, Mrs Esther David, who was raped and strangled by an unknown assailant at her farm. Vanguard reports that the hardworking mum had gone to collect palm fruits from her farm, and when she hadn’t returned at past 4pm, her family went in search of her, only to find her dead.
“She had barely lifted few bunches into her wheelbarrow when the rapist attacked her,” a villager told the press. “The woman’s husband and children became apprehensive at about 4p.m. when she had not returned home, and began a frantic search for her. They rushed back home and raised alarm after sighting only her wheelbarrow in the farm.”
Vanguard reports that the community head could not be reached for comment, but insider sources confirmed that the suspect has been nabbed by police and is currently undergoing interrogation.
