A Limuru man was beaten by a mob of residents in Rironi, Kenya, after he attempted to sodomise a 12 year old boy on Monday, May 2. Francis Njenga had allegedly told the boy he was beautiful and wanted to take him somewhere where he could further tell him about his beauty. “The boy told his father what the gentleman had said to him. Since the boy was near his home, he left the man by the road, entered his home and told his father about it,” said James Kamau, a resident in Rironi as quoted in the Star.
The minor’s father followed the boy outside to where the man was, to which a group of men came to see what was happening. After interrogation, Njenga was pounced on and beaten before being frogmarched to the trading center. “He told me I was beautiful and he wanted to take me somewhere to tell me more about it without hurry,” explained the minor.
Njenga was rescued by police who took him to hospital before being arrested and taken to court.
Cases of sodomy have been on the rise in the past few months after a number of reports were made at police stations of guardians and close family friends sodomising young boys. In Mombasa county, a madrassa teacher was sentenced in court for sodomising his son while another one was jailed for pouncing on a naked mentally unstable man.
Months ago, a senior police officer was under investigation for drugging his driver and attempting to sodomize him. He is said to have served the driver tea and proceeded to disrobe but the victim regained consciousness and tried to escape the office only to find it locked. It was at this time that he shouted for help and was rescued by other officers from the Vigilance House office in Nairobi.
