A 15-year old boy, identified as Ikpomwosa has drowned in a stagnant water at Iyoba Street, Uselu quarters,  Egor  local government area of Edo State, while hunting for cat fish. According to The Nation, he was fished out dead. Residents in the area said two persons had earlier died in the stagnant water. Ikpomwosa was said to have returned home from school following the strike action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and left immediately to hunt for fish.

The deceased’s mother, Mrs. Maureen Igiebor, said it was a little boy that came to inform her about her son’s death. She said her son was already dead before help came his way.

A sister of the victim, Omosigho, said, “One little boy just came and said my brother got drowned at Iyoba swamp and that he was dead. “The government should come and do something about this swamp because there are other helpless children out there. My only brother has gone,” she said.

A landlord in the area, Mr. Sunday Igbinidu, begged the government to do something about the water to avoid future deaths. He said, “Government should come to our rescue and solve this flooding problems. “About three years ago, somebody died in this flood. Another incident happened earlier this year before the latest tragedy,” he said.

  1. Our govt is not doing what they suppose to do. RIP to him
