A female student of the Bayero University, Kano, Sarah Imoleaya, has reportedly committed suicide over poor academic performances. Sarah, who was an indigene of Edo State and student of the Department of Library Science, Faculty of Education, drank Sniper, a brand of insecticide, and left suicide note saying: “I will not apply for course suspension. My academics is all I live for (sic). If I can’t get it right, f**k existence.”
A journalist with the campus radio station, Unity FM, Bello Lukman, shared the story on his Facebook wall. Sarah reportedly approached the university’s faculty office to find a solution to her academic issues but was told that nothing could be done. Consequently, she took the poison and left the short suicide note.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, Mr. Musa Majiya, said the incident took place on Thursday, May 19, adding that the report the police got was that she drank poison over a spill over. “The case has been transferred to the homicide unit of the department of criminal investigation for discreet investigation,” he told Punch.
