Bauchi Govt. Rescue 450 Teenage Girls Abducted By Human Traffickers & Camped In Abuja

Bauchi State government, in collaboration with security agents, has rescued 450 teenage girls from traffickers. A member of Bauchi State High Level Women Advocates, HILWA, a non-governmental organisation, and a staff of the Ministry of Education, Kalimatu Abdulkadir, disclosed this at a briefing to mark the International Day of the Girl-Child, organised by the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in collaboration with UNICEF, in Bauchi.

She said the Ministry of Education received information of teenage girls brought into the state from the neighbouring states of Zamfara, Jigawa and Sokoto and moved to Abuja in two batches. According to her, “investigations by security agents in the state revealed that some persons, who engaged in child trafficking, brought some girls from three northern states of Zamfara, Sokoto and Jigawa, into the state.

“The girls were camped at an undisclosed location in the state and were dispatched in batches to Abuja. Some of the girls were taken through Kano, while the remaining went through Bauchi. They took the routes to avoid detection by security agents on the highways.”

Kalimatu said security agents were able to track the whereabouts of the girls in Abuja, rescued them from their captors and reunited them with their families.
