Acting President Osinbajo Finally Reacts To Northerners Quit Notice To Igbos As Secession Threats Intensify

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has finally broken his silence on the on- going increasingly divisive talks from various segments of the country which became heightened with an ultimatum issued by some Arewa youths that Igbos should vacate the north before October 1st.

The acting president on Saturday while speaking at the wedding of a daughter of the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande in Ibadan, called on all Nigerians to embrace peace and unity and ignore attempts by ethnic champions to disintegrate the country.

Recall that a controversial northern elder, Prof Ango Abdullahi subsequently issued a press statement supporting the Igbo quit notice while secessionist group, Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) stated that it endorsed the ultimatum as it wanted all Igbo people to return home to develop the region.

He added that in marriage, challenges such as quarrels and agitations could come up at anytime, but the parties in the union must give peace a chance and work in unity so that the marriage would not hit the rock.

The Sun quotes the acting president to have said:

“Today is a special one for the couple. Marriage is a very large institution that requires a lot of prayers. It is the same marriage that nations go through.

“Our nation has been in marriage for a while now. Sometimes there are quarrels within that marriage.

Sometimes there is disagreement. What is important is that you must remain together. You must remain united.”
