Assemblies Of God Church Pastor Kidnapped, Abductors Demand N25million Ransom (Photo)

The abductors of Reverend Ekpenyong Edet James, the District Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, Ikorodu, Lagos State district are demanding a ransom of twenty five million Naira (N25 000 000) for his release, an amount lower than the fifty million Naira (N50 000 000) earlier demanded.

Pastor Ekpenyong, kidnapped on Friday, 19th January 2018 at Okpirikan Junction along Calabar-Itu Highway in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River has been in the kidnappers’ den for 10 days now.
The Clergyman was abducted while returning from the project site where he’s constructing a school, hospital and large scale palm plantation in his home town at Odukpani. Reverend James hails from Isong-Inyang village in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.
The family members who spoke with CALABAR REPORTERS said the Kidnappers had contacted them, reducing the ransom from fifty million Naira (N50 000 000) to N25 million.
“The kidnappers said we should pay N25 million, rather than the N50 million earlier demanded. But we don’t have such amount of money.
“We have tried with all our might and the church said they’ll be having another sitting to discuss the way forward. We have contacted the police too concerning the matter.
“We want our father released, please I am begging everyone out there, the Government, the police to help”, Mirabel, Reverend Ekpenyong’s daughter said.
When contacted, the Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo told CALABAR REPORTERS that Rev. James was kidnapped and the police are putting all their best to make sure he is released. “We are putting more efforts to ensure he is released”.
Concerning the witness, ASP Ugbo said, “The witness came to report the case to the police after 24 hours. She’s even a suspect because she was there when the Pastor was kidnapped.
“Other people ran away, but she did not run. She went and hid herself after which they have taken the man, she now came out; she even left with the man’s keys. Then, after 24 hours, that’s when she came to report. She is one of the suspects, so we are interrogating her”, she said.
The Cross River State police Command has always kept to their words, and we believe the police under Commissioner, CP Hafiz Inuwa will put all efforts to see Rev. Ekpenyong released.
