Former Chelsea Midfielder, Michael Essien Honoured With A Giant Statue In Kumasi, Ghana

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has been given a life-size statue and it’s even worse that Ronaldo’s. A life-size tribute to Essien, who now plays in the Indonesian topflight side Persib Bandung, has been unveiled in Kumasi, Ghana. Wearing a Chelsea shirt with the classic Samsung logo, Essien really doesn’t look like Essien.
Essien, who is regarded as one of the best signings of the Roman Abramovich era, has one Champions League and two Premier League medals to his name from his time at Stamford Bridge.

Since leaving Stamford Bridge in 2014, the Ghanaian played for AC Milan before moving to Panathinaikos, where he was released from his contract at the end of the season because of injuries.

Before his days at Chelsea, the midfielder helped Lyon win back-to-back Ligue 1 titles from 2003-2005, when they were the French league’s perennial winners.
He joined Chelsea for more than £20 million and straight away was an important cog in Jose Mourinho’s Premier League winners at Stamford Bridge, winning it again in 2009/10 as well.
