I Sell Stolen SUV For N50,000 - Suspect Confesses

The Ondo State Police Command on Monday paraded eight persons in connection with various armed robbery cases in the state. The suspects, according to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju, are Fadamitan Desmond, Olayemi Adeoye,  Omotayo Sunday, Olanrewaju Olalekan, Olaleye Busayo, Akinyemi Abayomi, Femi Adebayo and Imafidon Roland.

Adeyanju, while parading the suspects at the command  headquarters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, said they were arrested at various points in Akure following an intelligence report obtained by detectives of the command.

The commissioner said some of the suspects specialised in stealing and re-registering of vehicles, especially Honda CRV Jeeps. He added that six Honda CRV Jeeps and one Toyota Hilux Jeep were recovered from the suspects.

He said, “Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to have stolen the vehicles. Their leader, Olayemi Adeoye, narrated to us how they had been perpetrating the crime within and outside Akure. “Efforts are ongoing to arrest fleeing members of the gang.

The suspects will be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation.” Other items recovered from the hoodlums, according to the commissioner, are motorcycles, handsets, foodstuffs, household items, a toy gun and generators.

One of the suspects, Olayemi Adeoye, said he specialised in snatching vehicles.

He said after stealing the vehicles in Akure, he sold them in Abuja to another suspect, one Roland. “If I steal the Jeep here, I sell it to Roland in Abuja for N50,000,” Adeoye stated.

Meanwhile, the CP announced that the command had set up a special task force on mopping of illegal firearms in the state, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris.

Adeyanju gave a 21-day ultimatum to those keeping unauthorised firearms to submit them, saying anybody caught with illegal firearms after the deadline would be prosecuted.
